Over 200 students are yet to log into the University's moodle: N.U.S. VC
250 students are yet to log into the National University of Samoa’s (N.U.S.) moodle, and the University is submitting a proposal to start a laptop hirage scheme for students to access online learning.
This was revealed by the N.U.S. President and Vice-Chancellor Aiono Professor Alec Ekeroma in a response to queries from Eyespy Radio on Wednesday.
"All our students except 250 have logged in, some more frequently than others," Aiono told Eyespy Radio on Wednesday.
"We are submitting a proposal to Council to start a laptop hireage scheme for students who request, can pay $30 per week, vulnerable and full time. They have student’s SIM cards with free access to Moodle and the NUS website."
Due to current Lockdown restrictions, Aiono explained that most courses are now coursework and so are assessed accordingly.
Asked if there have there been any students that have left the university due to the challenges brought on by the lockdown and online education, he said: "There is an expected attrition rate, as has been observed at overseas Universities."
"Not all students find online learning acceptable or stress-free. It is too early to say but the lockdown in 2020 saw 150 students not return. Most of them were “at risk” (not doing well already)," he said.
