Law enforcement around the Pacific tackle trending crimes. Now that borders are open , the Pacific Transnational Crimes Network (P.T.C.N) conference can finally commence. Because of covid-19, their last meeting dated back in 2019 urging them to assemble for the annual conference.

A three day program that started on Monday and will wrap up on Wednesday this week.It was attended by law enforcement officials from around the Pacific with special guests in the Micronesians , Malaysia , Polynesian and American Samoa regions. This year marks 20 anniversary since this convention started.

In an exclusive interview with Samoa Police Commissioner Au'apaau Logoitino Filipo he mentions how important this conference is and how discussions focused on tackling crimes that are rising on a concerning scale.

"This conference allows pacific island nations to re-connect and evaluate law reinforcements. Especially crimes that rose during the pandemic"

"We are also looking into discussing new crimes that are being introduced into the Pacific," he says.

The Commissioner had mentioned that they will be sharing information with neighbouring countries on addressing these violations of the law, and some are new to Samoa. Such as child pronography ,human trafficking, gun violence, schemes and of course the war on drugs.

"We were shocked by information shown to us by our partnering law enforcement networks in New Zealand and Australia showing accessibility by people not only in Samoa but in the Pacific, viewing "Child Pornography" content. This is seriously concerning " he told the Eye Spy.

The program aims to find solutions to solve these issues, as it is a difficult task to operate without collaborations between these neighbouring countries. Increasing awareness and promoting the effort of the Pacific Transnational Crimes Network in working together for a safer

blue pacific.
