As Government Ministries across Samoa kick start their endeavours & planning this week  for 2023, the Ministry of Police, Prisons & Correction services in a meeting have announced plans to separate itself from the Prisons and Rehabilitation Authority once again as part of this year's agenda.

The Minister of Police and Prisons , Hon. Lefau Harry Schuster stated that plans have been laid out for his Ministry this year. In a meeting that was attended by Police Commissioner 'Auapa'au Logoitino Filipo and his Deputy Commissioner on Monday this week , changes were discussed for certain areas for the Ministry.

The separation of the Ministry of Police from the Prisons and Rehabilitation Authority is set to take effect in the month of July this year. This follows previous adjustments that were made by the earlier Government (H.R.P.P) several years ago.

Some of the other adjustments highlighted in the meeting include the Ministry of Defense's preparation of a delegation and councils for the CHOGM 2024 Meeting to be held in Samoa this year. This follows the high anticipation for the recruitment of men and women in the field, according to Deputy Commissioner Papali’i Monalisa Tiai-Keti.

"The meeting also gave time to reflect on the previous year’s work and challenges and to discuss what the organisation can improve, develop, and maintain as the year progresses" stated the  announcement.

Acknowledgements were conveyed to all the Commissioned Officers and ACEO's and their respective teams with regards to their endless commitment shown throughout the year and the recent festive season. They were also encouraged to continue the momentum; efforts to ensure.

In the year 2022, the section of motor vehicles and passing vehicles that was under the supervision of the police was again separated and moved to the Land Transportation Management (L.T.A) Office.
