SAMOA AND SINGAPORE FORGE NEW AIR CONNECTIVITY ERA WITH MOU SIGNING
In a momentous step towards bolstering ties and enhancing air connectivity, Samoa and Singapore have solidified their commitment to closer collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Air Service Agreement. The signing ceremony, which took place following the opening of the 3rd Singapore-Pacific Islands Transport Ministers’ Forum in Singapore on February 18, marks a significant milestone in the relationship between the two nations.
Representatives from both governments, including the Minister of Works, Transport, and Infrastructure for Samoa, Honorable Olo Fiti Afoa Vaai, and Singapore's Minister of Transport, Honorable Chee Hong Tat, penned the agreements, signifying their dedication to fostering greater cooperation.
The MOU and Air Service Agreement are poised to unlock a plethora of opportunities for both countries. Notably, they are expected to facilitate an increase in tourism, trade, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding. The agreements pave the way for the establishment of direct flights between Samoa and Singapore, offering travelers and businesses enhanced convenience and connectivity.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the agreements, Hon. Olo emphasized their significance, stating, "This MOU is a testament to the strong relationship between Samoa and Singapore. We are excited about the possibilities that enhanced air connectivity brings to our people and economies. This is more than just an agreement; it is a bridge between our nations."
Accompanying Hon. Olo are key officials including Afioga Fui Tupa’i Mau Simanu, MWTI Chief Executive Officer/Secretary for Transport; Lauano Yvonne Tuioti Mariner-Viliamu, MWTI Assistant Chief Executive Officer/Director Civil Aviation Division; Tualamaalii Wendy Pogi, Assistant Chief Executive Officer Legal; and Afioga Leiataua Isikuki Punivalu, Samoa Airport Authority Chairman.
The signing coincides with the ongoing 3rd Singapore-Pacific Islands Transport Ministers Forum and the 2nd Changi Aviation Summit, followed by the Singapore Airshow 2024. The participation of the Samoan delegation in these high-level meetings is made possible through the courtesy of the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.
The agreements signify not only a deepening of economic ties but also a strengthening of the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Samoa and Singapore.
