Samoa opens High Commission Office in Fiji
Samoa’s High Commission Office was officially opened on Tuesday and is located in Clarke Street, Suva.
The event was attended Prime Minister of Samoa Fiame Naomi Mataafa, Prime Minister of Fiji Josaia Voreqe Frank Bainimarama, Samoan High Commissioner to Fiji Aliioaiga Feturi Elisaia, and the Samoan community in Fiji.
In her address on Tuesday, Fiame had thanked the Government of Fiji for accepting their request to set up a diplomatic office in Fiji.
She said that good relations will allow Samoa and Fiji to pursue many win-win opportunities together.
"Should there be issues, we will handle them in the same constructive spirit and the Pacific way," she said.
"Excellencies ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your gracious presence this evening. May there be more engaging in the hallways of our modest office.
"And it is my pleasure to launch the first Samoan Chancery in Fiji."
Prime Minister Bainimarama on Tuesday had congratulated Fiame on becoming the first female Prime Minister of Samoa.
"Your new High Commission shows how serious Samoa is about building its friendship with Fiji," Prime Minister Bainimarama said in his address on Tuesday.
He had also acknowledged the work of Aliioaiga, his staff, and the Samoan community in Fiji for making the opening of the High Commission in Fiji possible.
"Samoans began this month by celebrating their sixtieth anniversary of independence. We are grateful to help you celebrate this evening with another milestone for your diplomatic engagement," he said.
"And I look forward to Samoa's quick recovery as you prepare to open your borders and normalise international travel this August."
