O le tele o sulu e maua ai figota, e mama se avega pe a ta amo fa’atasi

— were the words mentioned in the Samoa Squash Team as they conveyed their thank you to their teammates and supporters throughout their Oceania Squash Federation closed Championships in Fiji.

The tournament, held from October 2nd to 12th, featured fierce competition from Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, and New Caledonia.

In the men's team event, Samoa secured the bronze medal, with a lineup including Ivan Chewlit (Team Captain), Onesemo Old, Leo Fatialofa, Geoffrey Marfleet, Vaifale Patrick Ah Him, and Jobenz Manoa. They fiercely competed against New Caledonia (gold) and Fiji (silver).

In the women's team event, Samoa earned the silver medal with a team that featured the talents of Lucy Thompson, Opera Monzari, and Chelsea Johnson.

The individual men's competition witnessed Marika Matanatabu of Fiji claim the gold medal, marking a significant moment as it broke the New Caledonian winning streak. Samoa's Chelsea Johnson, in her debut campaign, narrowly missed out on an individual bronze medal.

The Samoa Squash Team expressed their deep gratitude to sponsors, supporters, and the Government of Samoa for making their participation in the championship possible. Their success underscores the importance of collaboration in promoting sports and opportunities for island youth.
