The Samoa Meteorology Division has warned of heavy torrential rain and heavy downpour in the next few days. The Assistant Chief Executive Officer (A.C.E.O) of the Samoa Meteorological Services, Afaese Dr. Luteru Tauvale said that due to cloudy and unsettling weather conditions which continue to persist over Samoa as seen in the past few days, a Heavy Rain Advisory has been issued as of yesterday the 24th of October.

"The system is predicted to provide scattered showers, periods of heavy falls as well as gustiness during showers.," he said.

He also added that the Heavy Rain Advisory issued yesterday remains in force for all land areas of Samoa.

The public has been told to expect heavy downpours likely affecting visibility, strong gusty winds, foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges,  and pooling near roadsides and waterways.

Afaese also said that the weather's impact will not only be felt on land but also likely affect maritime conditions by causing strong currents, very rough seas and coastal flooding.

“Due to the harsh changes in the weather, the Meteorology Division has warranted the issuance of the High Rain Advisory for marine waters as well as the Coastal Flood Advisory for low-lying areas of Samoa," the A.C.E.O. said.

“Residents in these specified areas of the country should prepare to move to higher ground in case of flooding from heavy downpour and rainfall. Our coastal communities also dependent on the sea for sustenance should abstain from going to the reef due to rough winds affecting the seas.

“The situation will continue to impact Samoa in the next few days hence the Heavy Rain Advisory promptly being upgraded to Warning Level  to reflect these changes in the weather, as well as valid warnings and advisories as issued by the Meteorology Office.”
