Samoa Victim Support Group Completes Government Project
The Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG) is proud to announce the successful completion of its 6th activity, which marks the end of a government-funded project entitled "Eliminating violence against women and girls.
In this final activity, SVSG has made a concerted effort to ensure that no one is left behind and has placed a particular emphasis on supporting one of the most marginalized groups in society.
As part of the project, 45 child vendors aged 6-15 have received assistance with their schooling needs and have remained in school until the end of the academic year. This was a significant achievement for these children, who were previously forced to leave school to support their families through vending.
In addition to assistance with their education, the parents of these vendors have also undergone Positive Discipline Parenting workshops and livelihood skills training. These programs have helped them earn income and provide for their families, while also ensuring that their children have the opportunity to receive an education.
As a result of undergoing livelihood training, one of the parents began selling handmade seis. This was one outcome of the 6th activity being implemented.
The success of this program is a testament to the importance of providing both education and livelihood opportunities for children and their families. SVSG is committed to continuing its efforts to support these families and ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
“SVSG would like to extend its gratitude to the Government of Samoa for funding this project. The organization hopes to continue to work with the government in order to improve the lives of vulnerable individuals and families in Samoa.” SVSG President Siliniu Lina Chang.
