SAMOA WEIGHTLIFTING SECURES 15 GOLD MEDALS  FOR SAMOA AND SETS RECORDS AT PACIFIC GAMES 2023

As the Pacific Games 2023 continue in the Solomon Islands, the Samoa Weightlifting Team has already left an indelible mark, especially with their exceptional performance in the weightlifting events.

Sanele Mao emerged as a standout athlete in the Men's 109+kg division, securing three silver medals in a closely contested battle. Meanwhile, in the Women's 87+kg Division, Iuniarra Sipaia achieved a remarkable feat with two gold medals, and Lesila Fiapule showcased her prowess by winning two silver medals and one gold medal.

Lesila Fiapule's success extended to the Snatch event in the Women's 87+kg division, where she claimed the gold medal, while Iuniarra Sipaia secured the silver.

Don Opeloge, a name synonymous with excellence, delivered a world-class performance by winning three gold medals and setting a new Pacific Games record. Maeu Nanai Livi dominated the Men's 96kg division, securing three gold medals.

In the Women's 76kg division, rising star Avatu Opeloge demonstrated remarkable talent, earning three silver medals. Nevo Ioane made headlines in the Men's 67kg division, clinching three gold medals and breaking Pacific Games records, in addition to setting a new Oceania record.

John Tafi's outstanding performance in the Men's 73kg division was nothing short of historic, earning him three gold medals and setting new Oceania and Pacific Games senior records.

As the weightlifting events concluded, the Samoa Weightlifting Team's overall performance stands at an impressive 15 gold medals and 8 silver medals. The team's achievements include four new Pacific Games records and three new Oceania records.

While the weightlifting chapter has concluded, the Samoa Weightlifting Team's success sets the tone for the remainder of the Pacific Games. Their dedication and achievements thus far reflect the resilience and skill that define them as a powerhouse in the Pacific region.
