TANUMALALA PRISON CELLS INVESTIGATED
The Samoan Police & Corrections Services conducted investigations inside cells at Tanumalala Prison , after speculations of items being smuggled inside.
The Tanu Operation were conducted by more than 50 police officers who entered the compound searching for clues , after strong suspicions that prisoners were given the items either by visitors or police officers.
This operation was led by Deputy Police Commissioner (Matai) Herbert Aati and according to his observations , no other signs of items were found. The operation was a success after investigations were conducted on the prisoners.
As of earlier this month , a local police officer was charged with smuggling items to inmates at prison. Some of the items reported were a mobile phone and narcotics (marijuanna).
Police are continuing their investigations regarding the matter. According to an announcement on Friday last week , a reminder to the public was mentioned , saying that smuggling when visiting Tanumalala is prohibited and law is involved.
Photos were also posted as the operation was thoroughly carried out within each prison cell. Police officers seen speculating each room and collecting signs of any evidence.
A date is yet to be confirmed for the Court Case of the accused Police Officer according to replies by Deputy Commissioner Papalii Tiai Keti.
