"VAIPU SWAMP FOREST" A GEM OF SAMOA
The Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment (M.N.R.E) in collaboration with the Lotofaga and Va'a O Fonoti districts announces the conservative project for the "Vaipu Swamp Forest" located at the eastern side of the Upolu island.
The aspect in which the initiative was projected follows a study that was conducted on the ecological value the vicinity holds. This regarding its biology and geophysical study which was also noticed on the ancient village of Vaigafa just adjacent from the Vaipu Swamp.
"A presentation was given to the Centre of Samoan Studies (N.U.S) on its historical values" stated the announcement.
In a consultation between the joint districts and the Ministry conducted on Friday this week discussions were made regarding the richness of the swamp forest, and guidelines on how to protect its natural element, which possibly could be an eco-tourism site.
As its theme "Enhancing the Conservation and Wise Use of Vaipu Swamp Forest in Samoa Project" , an initiative that was funded by the Nagao Wetland Fund and the Ramsar Secretariat. The project was agreed upon by the Government and members of the district.
According to the Ministry's announcement via a Press Release issued on Friday it stated that members of the community of Lotofaga & Va'a o Fonoti conveyed positive feedback towards the project.
