VINI FOU TO PROTECT SPRING WATER POOL

The "Punaoleola" spring drinking water pool within the vicinity of Vini Fou was celebrated by village members , as the project goal to rehabilitate and conserve its essence and beauty was a successful initiative by the EFKS Vini Fou.
Project Coordinator Leota Victory Leavai stated how beneficial this project was to not only the community of Vini Fou but other places in Samoa where fresh water like "Punaoleola" exists.
"The goal for this community is to have clean spring water and protect the site , now with a project to fence and conserve the natural pool it is safe and cleaner for the consumption of the community here. Other villages should do the same" he said.
Development for sites like the Punaoleola pool is one of the many aspects the Community of Vini Fou tries to protect, and thanks to Small Grants Programme funds were provided to assist communities like Vini Fou in tackling pollutants such as soil erosion that can harm these natural sites.
UNDP Assistant Resident Representative Lapale Aussie Simanu said the project committee of Vini Fou have executed the project successfully. "The UNDP GEF-SGP congratulates the Vini Fou community,"
he said.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment assisted Vini Fou when the project commenced and briefed the community on ways to conserve and protect the Punaoleola Spring Pool and other developments such as forestation , cement walls for the pool , watercress growth and soil erosion prevention.
Vice President Aumua Clark Peteru of the EFKS Vini Fou and its Project Committee stated how equipped the Vini Fou community is with the new knowledge that has been passed over to them by Conservative Members.
"We appreciate the skills and knowledge handed down by the Conservation Officials as it will be a huge benefit for our community especially the children who swim in the pool daily , some use it to bathe and harvest watercress which is at the very end of the pool" he concluded.
