15 New Recruits For Samoa Police
15 new police officers who underwent an intense 7 weeks training programme have submitted an oath to serve under the Ministry of Police. 6 of the newly sworn-in recruits were men, while 9 of them were mostly women.
Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga, the Deputy Commissioner for Prisons and Corrections Services, and his Senior Management were in attendance to see the commencement of these men and women's careers as corrections officers.
The recruits were sworn in by District Court Judge, His Honorable Loau Donald Kerslake.
Honorable Judge Kerslake reiterated during his remarks the importance of two roles that corrections officers must fulfill: first, "They are to protect and ensure the safety and well-management of inmates under their care within Tanumalala, Olomanu, and Vaiaata," and second, "They are to protect and ensure the safety of the community from them (inmates)."
The Honorable Judge Loau reminded the recruits of their oath, saying that they should comprehend its importance because it sets out their duties as prison officers.
"You have committed to serving with integrity, honor, and justice in accordance with the law." You have vowed to serve the Ministry honorably.
For the first time, recruits for the Prisons and Corrections Services received their training and evaluations apart from those for the Samoa Police, and they were also the first to take the oath of office in the District Courts.
On May 17, 2023, the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Culture (MESC) Samoa Culture and Arts Center will host the graduation ceremony for the fifteen recruits.
