This year's official theme for Mother's Day celebrations in Samoa is "The Benefits of Conscious Leadership," which is how Samoan mothers are portrayed.

Mothers have distinguished themselves for their contributions in a variety of settings around the nation, including in churches, families, and communities, particularly in our government.

The 60th anniversary of the Samoan Government's freedom from colonial rule falls this year. Without a doubt, women have been one of the key drivers of this accomplishment.

The fact that Honourable Fiame Naomi Mata'afa, the first female leader of the Pacific, was elected as Samoa's prime minister, further strengthens this argument.

In addition to the long-term advantages of women's independence, it also honors women's respect and dignity in the nation. The Family Safety Survey (2017) continues to show a high of 60% increase in violence against women.

Additionally, the same survey found that moms violently treat their children at a rate of 31%.

In Samoa's numerous churches, women still play an important role. More men than women make up the majority in all churches put together, according to statistics (SBS, 2021).

However, it has been shown that 65 percent of moms are active in organizations like the Mafutaga a Tina and church choirs (MWCSD, 2017).

It is critical to talk about strategies for recognizing women's participation in effective leadership and decision-making.

The 20th National Mothers' Day has been observed in Samoa this year to honor the crucial leadership and service that mothers provide to their families, communities, churches, and the government.

In order to integrate everyone and promote the prosperity of Samoa, the government has taken steps to recognize the ongoing development that mothers carry out.
