"3,302 TEACHERS ARE NOT ENOUGH": M.E.S.C CEO
Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Education Sports & Culture (M.E.S.C) Aeau Chris Hazelman , says there is a shortage of teachers at a concerning level in Samoa. "The 3,302 teachers currently at the Ministry isn't enough"said Aeau
Science and Mathematics are courses highly in need of lecturers as there is an increasing demand of students who need teachers."We need more teachers, there is an increasing number of students every year " the CEO stated during a Press Conference on Wednesday this week.
'"The Ministry is currently seeking solutions to solve this problem , we've considered options like rehiring retired teachers," he added.
Aeau also stated that there is an immense number of teachers who are qualified in areas of Science and Mathematics , but have seeked to fulfill other commitments and interests leading the system to a
shortage.
"We've had certified educators who have decided to fulfill other areas of expertise, some have become pastors , others have taken up positions in other workplaces that pay more" he said.
Aspects that the Ministry have listed to resolve this situation includes virtual lessons on Science and Mathematics to be conducted.
"We will be introducing a fresh system that can have one teacher in either Science or Mathematics serve several students closer
