Japan hands over new Aana 1College school Hall

The Government of Japan and Aana No.1 College celebrated the completion of their new school hall and toilet block. The school’s project was largely funded under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) which provided a grant of up to USD218,136 approximately (SAT547,000).

His Excellency, Mr. SENTA Keisuke, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa, congratulated the completion of the project through a handover ceremony held earlier today (3 March) at the school’s compound. Among those who attended were the Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Hon. Seuula Ioane Tuuau, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and Member of Parliament for Aana No.4, Hon. Toeolesulusulu Cedric Schuster, representatives from the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture, School Committee, parents, principal and staff, as well as students.

The School Committee sought Japan’s GGP assistance in 2020 realizing the school was in much need of a hall and necessary to accommodate for school activities and functions such as assemblies, cultural programs, prize giving and etc.

Japan’s GGP is pleased to assist and be part of the development process of Aana No.1 College for which education is considered as one of the most important sectors of the socio- economic sectors of Samoa.

Thus, the Government of Japan has decided to make every effort to prioritize the development of basic education by improving and providing access to equal opportunities across Samoa.

Japan’s GGP was introduced in 1991 to respond to various development needs at the grass- roots level in developing countries, and to date have granted over 210 projects in different sectors throughout Samoa.

The assistance epitomizes Japan’s commitments to support the efforts by the Government of Samoa to achieve its national pathway for the development of Samoa and to strengthen the warm friendship between Japan and Samoa.
