Former Miss Samoa Receive Award From Australian Government
The Government of Australia has recognised Papalii Alexandra Iakopo-Ah Tong for her work in gender specifics and has awarded her prestigiously.
She was awarded with the 2023 Gender Equality Award under Category 1- inclusive by Design where she was one of the four respected recipients to receive the prestigious award.
The honour was presented by the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade within the Australian Government.
"This award regonises exceptional efforts by staff at all levels across our network who are excelling at achieving gender equality in their work" the announcement explained.
Papalii Alexandra Iakopo-Ah Tong who was the former Miss Samoa and was crowned in the years 2017/2018.She was also a qualification officer with the Samoa Qualification Authorities.
"Papalii has been an unstoppable force in championing gender equality and inclusion, not just in our workplace, but also in the delivery of Australia’s development partnership with Samoa. Her tireless efforts have lifted the calibre of our work, and we are excited to see her outstanding work recognized with this award" added the announcemment by the Australian High Commision in Samoa.
Alexandra holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the National University of Samoa (NUS). She started as a hotel receptionist before taking up her studies and completed an internship with the N.U.S Governance Policy Planning Unit, and as a Support Officer with the House Disability Division in the Australian High Commission to Samoa.
