Letogo celebrates 60 years of Samoa’s Independence
The village of Letogo hosted a Talomua on Friday and had celebrated Samoa’s 60th independence anniversary.
The event was held on Friday and was organised by the Alii and Faipule of Letogo, and was attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Laauli Leuatea Schmidt, Member of Parliament for Vaimauga No 1 Sulamanaia Tuivasa Tauiliili, and members of the Letogo village.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (M.A.F.), agricultural produce were displayed. The village’s women’s committee had displayed fine mats and handicrafts.
The Ministry had provided the village with farming tools, equipment, seeds and seedlings of various crops.
According to the statement, Lauuli said in his address on Friday that village of Letogo used to have well established facilities for processing goods such as soap and milk.
He then added that the Talomua will be an opportunity to encourage farmers and fishers to actively participate in showcasing the fruits of their hard labour, and had reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots communities with a direct assistance approach to districts with the $1 million Tala development fund.
Laauli had acknowledged the participation of Letogo and Samoa Primary Schools, and had also acknowledged the support and the efforts of the women of the village.
According to the statement, the mayor of Letogo Tufalevulevu Faapiano Pilimai had voiced the village’s request for them to utilize government owned land in Letogo to expand their agricultural developments, and assistance with access roads for farming purposes, school buildings and water supply.
