Police respond to public disturbance, issue D.U.Is after alcohol ban lifted
As the ban on alcohol sale was lifted recently, police have stated that they have issued several D.U.Is and responded to public disturbances which involved alcohol.
Acting Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo stated that police have issued quite a lot of D.U.I.s since alcohol ban was lifted, including a few public disturbance they have responded to.
Auapaau made the comments in response to queries from Eyespy Radio on Tuesday.
The ban on alcohol during Samoa's Alert Level 2 Lockdown had been lifted more than a week ago.
Auapaau had also revealed that there was a car crash where alcohol was involved but according to him there was no one injured.
Asked about the amount of D.U.Is issued since the alcohol ban was lifted, Auapaau said that he did not have that information at the time.
He had then advised the public to drink responsibly, saying that to make sure you have a designated driver when going out at night.
"If you are in town you are not allowed to drink in a public place so you cant go around town with beer bottles," Auapaau told Eyespy Radio on Tuesday.
"Be responsible especially during COVID, we dont want additional hassles to us because all of our resources are diverted to other SOE orders, and these alcohol issues are added onto it."
