Policeman Suspected Of Smuggling Contraband Into Prison
A Policeman with the Samoa Police Prisons and Corrections Services (SPPCS) has been suspended temporarily after the officer was alleged to have smuggled contrabands, illicit drugs, and mobile phones into the Tanumalala prison.
Investigation into the matter is still ongoing.as confirmed by the Deputy Commissioner of the Samoa Police Services, Papali'i Moanalisa Tia'i-Keti, in an interview with Eyespy Radio on Wednesday this week.
It has been a week since the officer in question was suspended by Samoa Police after allegations that the officer was secretly smuggling contraband to inmates currently serving time at Tanumalala Prison.
The identity of the officer currently under suspension for the alleged crime has not been made public by Samoa Police, but Papali'i stated that they are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter as such acts have occurred before.
The smuggling of contraband into the correctional facility has happened before, as evident three years ago when illicit drugs and mobile phones were confiscated during an investigative sweep by Police following a mass prison break by more than 20 prisoners.
