Tropical Cyclone IRENE Not A Threat To SAmoa

The Samoa Meteorology Office on Wednesday has confirmed warnings of heavy rainfall and advisory of possible flooding for Samoa in the next few days and also advised that Samoa won't be affected by Cyclone Irene.

According to satellite visuals obtained and observed by the Samoa Meteorologists it reported that a deep and convectic cloud band has covered the west and east of the Samoan islands. Following conditions of rainfall and thunderstorms for the island.

In a facebook post uploaded by the officials, it indicated that sufficient moisture and unstable atmospheric profiles were noticed during their observations. This means that these conditions favor the growth of the cloud which is why Samoa is expected to endure Heavy Rain Warning and Flood Advisory atmospheric conditions.

"These conditions favor cloud development and heavy rainfall as the convergence zone lies within the vicinity of Samoa. Hence, Heavy Rain Warning and Flood Advisory remain in effect for Samoa" the
announcement explained.

The Samoa Met Office highlighted some of the conditions that they have advised the country to keep a close eye on.  Safety measures are at the height of the reports as the officials constantly convey to the
public to keep safe and away from areas that will be affected.

"Heavy downpours with poor visibility, foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges, pooling near roadsides and waterways.

Expect gusty periods during rain. Flooding and landslides are possible." the post continued.

However , a tropical cyclone has been detected in Fiji and given the name "Irene". According to reports ,Cyclone "Irene" was named Category 1 by the Fiji Meteorological Office yesterday evening.

"Cyclone "Irene" is currently lying in the West of the island of Vanuatu and its travelling path is to move towards the South-East. Vanuatu is affected by strong winds, prolonged dry spells, and high waves. Some parts of New Caledonia are affected by extreme weather conditions as well" states observations by the Samoa Meteorology Office.

As for Samoa, although severe weather such as lightning and thunderstorms is being observed - according to the Samoa Meteorology Office Posted on facebook that Samoa won't be affected by Cyclone Irene “Tropical Cyclone IRENE — Category 2 — do not pose a threat to Sāmoa”
