TOTAL NUMBER OF COVID-19 RELATED DEATHS RISES TO 19

According to the latest situational report released by the Ministry of Health over the weekend, 597 new COVID-19 cases were detected within a timeframe of only 48 hours.

376 of the positive cases were confirmed between April 26 at 2pm – April 27 at 2pm, with the remaining 221 cases confirmed from April 27 at 2pm - April 28th at 2pm.

Of the 597 new positive cases, 596 are new community cases, whereas one is a new positive border case. This brings the total number of community cases to 9,519, and the total number of cases at Port of Entry to 73. Altogether the Cumulative number of positive COVID-19 cases recorded in the community and at the border is 9,592.

The total number of Rapid Antigen Tests administered by the Ministry of Health now stands at 65,949.

As at 2pm local time on 28th April, 2022, there were 11 patients reported to be in managed isolation, and 1 patient in the Intensive Care Unit at Moto’otua Hospital.

Sadly, the Ministry of Health also reported 3 new COVID-19 related deaths in the 48 hours. The deceased included;

i. a 45 year old male with two diagnosed comorbidities who was unvaccinated;

ii. a 77 year old female with known comorbidities and one medical condition who completed two doses and booster of the COVID vaccine;

iii. a 85 year old male with known comorbidities who was unvaccinated

The cumulative total of Covid-19 related deaths since community transmission was first detected has since risen to 19. 

Out of respect for the families and relatives the Ministry has declared that they will not be making any further comments.
